Man Held in Gauripur for Illegal Entry from Bangladesh

Selim SK, Gauripur: In a dramatic incident underscoring cross-border security concerns, a Bangladeshi national was detained in Assam’s Gauripur town after allegedly entering India illegally to elope with a local woman he had befriended on Facebook. The man, identified as Rittik Chandra Paul from West Vasantpur in Fulgazi Feni district of Bangladesh, was intercepted by vigilant residents in the Darchuka area of Gauripur while attempting to flee with the woman. Suspicious of the pair’s movements, locals intervened and handed them over to the police. Police sources confirmed that Paul had crossed the international border without valid documents, driven by plans to elope. Upon interrogation, his foreign nationality was verified, and he is now in custody at Gauripur police station. Authorities have launched a probe into how Paul managed to enter the country and whether he received assistance from others during his journey. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over border surveillance and the growing influence of social media in facilitating such cross-border encounters. Officials stated that legal proceedings are underway and action will be taken based on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
