Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) has taken suo-motu cognizance of a reported incident involving the alleged physical assault of a woman by a man identified as Victor Das. The case has sparked public outrage, prompting immediate intervention by the Commission. In a strongly worded statement, the ASCW condemned the alleged assault as a “heinous act” and expressed deep concern over the rising threats to women's safety and dignity in the state. The Commission underscored the urgent need for thorough investigation and accountability in such matters. The case has been officially registered under reference number ASCW/SM/01/2025. Exercising its statutory mandate, the ASCW has directed law enforcement and local authorities to initiate a full-scale investigation. It has also sought a detailed enquiry report, along with an action-taken report, within 30 days of receiving the notice.
