West Bengal CM inaugurates Girls' World School in Siliguri

News Desk, Siliguri: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee virtually inaugurated the Techno India Group World School in Siliguri last evening, marking what she described as a major milestone in the journey toward world-class education for every girl child in North Bengal and the greater Northeast region. Speaking during the Siliguri Business Meet 2025, the Chief Minister lauded the Techno India Group for its continued commitment to the development of North Bengal. “I congratulate Techno India Group and Satyam Roychowdhury in particular for this outstanding contribution to girls’ education in the region. He has already built many schools and hospitals, and now the World School joins that bright list,” she said. The newly inaugurated school, which offers classes from nursery to Class 12 and includes hostel facilities, is envisioned as a residential-cum-day institution exclusively for girls. Banerjee emphasized the importance of such institutions in empowering young women and unlocking their potential. “This school will benefit students from across the region. Satyam wants to do more for North Bengal—he’s already opened 15 campuses here. I’ve asked him to also start an institute focused on fashion and the fashion industry because our youth—from Darjeeling to Cooch Behar—are smart, stylish, and ready for the global stage,” the Chief Minister added. She praised the Techno India Group’s founder for his visionary efforts and path-breaking educational initiatives. “This is about more than just a school; it’s about shaping futures,” she said. In his address, Satyam Roychowdhury, Managing Director and Founder of Techno India Group, recalled his long association with the region. “I began my journey here in 1999 with the Siliguri Institute of Technology. Today, we turn another page with this world-class school for girls,” he said. Roychowdhury also thanked Mamata Banerjee for her “support and encouragement,” especially for granting permission for the upcoming Skill, Knowledge and Fashion University—the first private university in North Bengal. “She even added ‘fashion’ to the university’s name, recognizing the aspirations of our youth and the need to support fashion as a serious academic and industrial field,” he said, adding that the university’s campus at Salbari, Siliguri will begin construction soon. The Techno India Group World School is already drawing attention from both national and international circles. Designed to prepare students for global academic pathways, it has quickly become a preferred choice for families looking at international-standard education for their daughters without sending them abroad. With fast-rising enrolment numbers and growing regional enthusiasm, the school is being seen as a transformative step forward for education and women’s empowerment in North Bengal.
