Dibrugarh Police Officers Trained in Scientific Fingerprint Investigation

A Correspondent, Dibrugarh: In an effort to strengthen scientific investigation practices, Assam Police organised a specialised training programme on fingerprint development and lifting for investigating officers at the Police Reserve in Dibrugarh. The training was attended by investigating officers from all police stations under Dibrugarh Police, with the objective of enhancing their forensic investigation skills and improving the accuracy of crime scene evidence collection. The programme focused on practical techniques for developing, preserving and lifting fingerprints from different surfaces. Fingerprint evidence remains one of the most reliable forms of forensic proof and often plays a critical role in linking suspects to crime scenes. During the session, officers were guided through scientific methods used in modern forensic investigations, emphasising the importance of precision and proper handling of evidence to avoid contamination or loss of crucial clues. Strengthening officers’ capacity in forensic methods will help investigators move beyond traditional investigative approaches and rely more on scientific evidence to solve cases. The training programme is part of ongoing initiatives by Assam Police to upgrade the investigative capabilities of field officers and improve overall crime detection and prosecution in the district.
