Air Quality Monitoring System Installed at Bajali HS School to Boost Climate Awareness

A Correspondent, Pathsala: An air quality monitoring system has been installed at Bajali Higher Secondary School in Pathsala with the aim of encouraging environmental awareness and climate education among students. The initiative was undertaken by the Bajali District Administration in collaboration with the Assam Forest Department. Officials said the system will help students and residents understand the quality of air in their surroundings through real-time monitoring of pollution levels. The device will track several key environmental indicators, including PM2.5, PM10, carbon dioxide and other gases, which are widely used to assess air quality and environmental health. Authorities believe that direct access to such data will motivate students to take a greater interest in environmental protection and climate-related issues. The installation programme was attended by Mridul Kumar Das, Anjan Sarma, environmental activist Ananda Khataniyar, T. C. Ranjith Ram and school principal Ranjan Chakraborty. On the occasion, a book titled Everyday Climate Action was also launched. Speakers at the event stressed the importance of increasing public dialogue on climate change and noted that such initiatives in schools can play a vital role in building awareness among young people. Students and teachers welcomed the installation, stating that the monitoring system would also support environmental studies and research activities while helping the community stay informed about local air quality conditions.
