Staff Reporter, Biswanath: The first phase of the panchayat elections in Biswanath district ended peacefully today. Voters cast their ballots at 747 polling stations in Biswanath, Behali and Gohpur assembly constituencies in Biswanath district from 7.30 am today. There were 250 polling stations in Biswanath assembly constituency, 215 polling stations in Behali assembly constituency and 282 polling stations in Gohpur assembly constituency. Voting ended at 4.30 pm. The overall voter turnout in the district was 64.51 per cent as of 4.30 pm. However, the turnout is likely to increase. The total number of voters in the first phase of polls in Biswanath, Behali and Gohpur assembly constituencies under Biswanath constituency is 4,74,927. There are 2,37,836 male voters, 2,37,083 female voters and 8 other voters. A total of 1,312 candidates contested in 12 Zila Parishads, 73 Anchalik Panchayats and 730 Gaon Panchayat wards in the district. There are already 261 candidates elected unopposed in the district.
