News Desk, Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a high-level review meeting at Raj Bhavan to assess the ongoing Indo-Myanmar border fencing project, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening border security and management. Key officials, including the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, Director General of Police, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), and senior representatives from the Home and Agriculture departments, attended the meeting. Officials from the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) presented detailed updates on land acquisition, approach road construction, security logistics, and manpower deployment. Representatives from the Assam Rifles were also present, while Deputy Commissioners of the five border districts joined via video conference to provide localized insights and updates. The Governor emphasized the critical importance of expediting the fencing work along the Indo-Myanmar border. “Effective border fencing is vital for ensuring national security, regulating cross-border movement, and maintaining regional stability,” he noted. The review underscored the need for coordinated efforts across departments to address logistical and administrative challenges that may hinder progress. Governor Bhalla urged all stakeholders to maintain a proactive approach to ensure timely completion of the project. The meeting concluded with directives to accelerate the pace of work while ensuring transparency and minimal disruption to local communities. The Indo-Myanmar border, which stretches across several northeastern states, remains a sensitive region. The fencing project is expected to play a key role in enhancing surveillance, curbing illegal activities, and reinforcing the integrity of India’s international borders.
