News Desk, Guwahati:The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has marked a historic milestone with the successful trial run of a train to Sairang, near Aizawl, on May 1. This trial establishes Mizoram as the fourth northeastern state with its capital connected to India’s national railway network. Senior NFR officials, including General Manager (Construction) Shri Arun Kumar Chaudhary, were present during the trial. Shri Chaudhary later briefed Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh and Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma on the project's progress and future prospects. He highlighted that the Commissioner of Railway Safety is scheduled to inspect the line in early June, with formal inauguration expected post-June 17. The Bhairabi–Sairang Railway Project, spanning 51.38 km, is a feat of modern engineering. It includes 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 87 minor bridges—amounting to a total tunnel length of 12.8 km. One of the project’s standout structures, Bridge No. 196, soars 104 meters—towering 42 meters above Delhi’s iconic Qutub Minar. Divided into four sections, the railway line is poised to significantly enhance connectivity in Mizoram. NFR officials emphasized its potential to stimulate local tourism, bolster small-scale industries, and reduce travel and transport costs. The improved rail link is expected to strengthen economic ties and ensure better access to essential goods and services for the region. The NFR reaffirmed its commitment to completing the project promptly, bringing the benefits of rail connectivity to Mizoram’s residents.
