Freedom fighter Ahmed Ali passes away at 107

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur: Ahmed Ali, a revered freedom fighter and one of the oldest residents of Lakhimpur district, passed away on Saturday evening at his residence on C.D. Road, North Lakhimpur. He was 107. Born in 1918, Ahmed Ali took part in the Quit India Movement as a young Congress volunteer in undivided Lakhimpur, contributing to India’s struggle for independence. Following freedom, he led a humble yet impactful life, running a newspaper agency near the Mahkuma Parishad Office and engaging in local trade through weekly markets. A devout and community-oriented individual, Ali dedicated much of his time to the C.D. Road Jame Masjid and various social initiatives. He was widely respected for his simplicity, honesty, and lifelong commitment to public service. Predeceased by his wife and two sons, Ahmed Ali is survived by three sons and several grandchildren, who continue to carry forward his legacy of service and humility. On Sunday, Ahmed Ali was laid to rest with full state honours. Lakhimpur police presented a nine-gun salute in a solemn official ceremony attended by dignitaries including North Lakhimpur Municipality Board Chairperson Krishna Dhar Sen. His Janaza was held at the North Lakhimpur Town Kabarstan later in the afternoon. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of many across Lakhimpur, with tributes pouring in from various sections of society mourning the loss of a true patriot and noble soul.
