News Desk, West Sikkim: The Sikkim Professional Institute of Nursing (SPION), Budang, a constituent college of Sikkim Professional University (SPU), recently celebrated International Nurses Day 2025 with a special seminar. SPION, which offers B.Sc. Nursing and GNM programs approved by the Indian Nursing Council and Sikkim Nursing Council, boasts excellent infrastructure and experienced faculty, providing students hands-on training through internships at government hospitals in Namchi, Soreng, and Gangtok. International Nurses Day, observed worldwide every May 12 in honor of Florence Nightingale’s birth anniversary, carries the theme for 2025: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies.” This theme underscores the importance of promoting nurses’ health and wellness to ensure high-quality care, strengthen healthcare systems, and bolster economic resilience globally. To commemorate the day, SPION organised a one-day seminar titled “Role of Nurses in Welfare of Society: Future Scope and Challenges.” Principal Nisha Soren, Assistant Professor Ms. Songmit Lepcha, and Ms. Nikita delivered insightful lectures emphasizing nurses’ critical roles in healthcare, the growing global demand for nursing professionals, and opportunities available locally, nationally, and internationally for graduates. The seminar concluded with an address from SPU Vice Chancellor Prof. H. S. Yadav, who applauded the nursing profession’s crucial contributions both in hospitals and academia. He praised SPION’s academic team for their dedication to quality education, preparing students to meet the challenges of nursing globally. Prof. Yadav congratulated the students and faculty, urging them to continue serving society and enhancing India’s healthcare sector for a healthier future. This celebration reaffirmed SPION’s commitment to nurturing skilled nursing professionals ready to impact healthcare positively at all levels.
