A Correspondent, Chirang: A major road mishap occurred in the early hours of Saturday near Borotalowa in Assam’s Chirang district, when a coal-laden container truck overturned off National Highway 27, creating panic among locals and bringing traffic to a standstill in the area. The truck, which was reportedly on its way from Guwahati to Bihar, veered off the highway near Jamtola under the jurisdiction of Kajalgaon Police Station. According to eyewitnesses, a loud crashing sound was heard around dawn, prompting nearby residents to rush to the site. In a fortunate turn of events, the driver survived the accident with only minor injuries. Locals helped rescue him from the mangled vehicle and rushed him to a nearby hospital for medical care. His condition is reported to be stable. Although the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, preliminary findings indicate that the truck may have lost balance due to an excessive load or a possible mechanical failure, particularly with the steering system. The accident caused significant disruption, completely blocking the sub-road that connects Jamtola to Barpathar. Traffic remained stalled for several hours until authorities arrived and began efforts to remove the overturned container. Police have initiated a probe into the incident, and clearance operations were underway as of Saturday afternoon to restore normal vehicular movement in the area. Residents have expressed concerns over frequent accidents on this stretch of NH-27 and are urging authorities to implement stricter monitoring of heavy vehicles and improve road safety measures.
