AJYCP and AASU Stage Protests Across Lakhimpur Demanding Justice for Zubeen Garg

Staff Reporter, Lakhimpur: The Lakhimpur units of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parichad (AJYCP) and All Assam Students Union (AASU) organized widespread protests on Thursday, demanding justice for the late singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who passed away under mysterious circumstances in Singapore a month ago. In North Lakhimpur, the AJYCP led a demonstration as part of its state-wide campaign, calling for strict punishment for the accused. Protesters carried effigies of Shayamkanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sarma, reportedly involved in the case, and conducted a “mock hanging,” even slapping the effigies with footwear. The youth demanded a speedy trial and exemplary action against the culprits. The AASU, meanwhile, organized a “Nyaya Samadal” (March for Justice) in North Lakhimpur, drawing large crowds of students and locals who marched through the town’s main streets, urging the authorities to ensure a fair trial and justice for Zubeen Garg. Protests were also reported in Gogamukh, Nowboicha, and other parts of Lakhimpur district, with both AJYCP and AASU reiterating their call for accountability and swift legal action. The demonstrations underscore the deep grief and anger among Zubeen Garg’s fans and the wider community, who continue to demand justice for the beloved artist and hold the accused responsible for his untimely death.
