Staff Reporter, Barpeta: The District Administration of Barpeta formally activated the District Monitoring Committee on Accessible Election on Tuesday, aiming to enhance participation and inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the upcoming electoral process. The meeting was held at the DC Conference Hall and chaired by District Commissioner (in-charge) Diganta Baishya, ACS. Officials from various departments and representatives from the PwD community attended the session. Addressing the attendees, DC Baishya stressed the crucial role of stakeholders’ feedback in shaping election accessibility measures. He urged that their suggestions be implemented sincerely to ensure a smooth and equitable voting experience for all. Following directives from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the committee will operate as a formal body tasked with regular meetings, establishing clear goals, and periodically reviewing the progress of accessibility initiatives. Discussions during the meeting focused on concrete steps to remove barriers and facilitate voting for PwDs, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to upholding the dignity and independence of every voter, regardless of physical ability. The activation of this committee marks a significant step toward fostering an inclusive democratic process in Barpeta district.
