Staff Reporter, Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Health & Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge inspected the upcoming site for the State Cancer Institute at Midpu, near Doimukh, marking a major milestone in the state’s healthcare journey. The Rs. 217.19 crore project is being funded under the PM-DeVINE scheme—an initiative by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) aimed at fast-tracking development in the Northeast. The cancer institute will be a 100% centrally sponsored project. Highlighting the urgent need for such a facility, Minister Wahge said, “This institute is crucial, given Arunachal’s high cancer burden. It will save patients from the hardship of travelling to faraway cities for treatment.” He called for collective cooperation to ensure timely and smooth execution. He was joined by Dr. Mohesh Chai, Advisor to the Health Minister, and Nabam Vivek, MLA of the 14th Doimukh Assembly Constituency. Once completed, the institute will offer advanced cancer care with facilities such as PET-CT, Linear Accelerators, Brachytherapy, and Modular Operation Theatres. Wahge assured that the project is on schedule and being treated as a top priority. Civil works are being executed by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Works Department (Capital Division A, Itanagar). Officials confirmed that e-tendering is complete and construction is progressing swiftly. More than just a medical facility, the institute is seen as a symbol of hope—bringing accessible, affordable, and dignified cancer care within reach for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
