Gossaigaon, November 21: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kokrajhar successfully concluded a five-day long training programme at Assam Agricultural University, Telipara in Gossaigaon demonstrating vocational training on Commercial nursery raising and propagation techniques of major Horticultural Crops. The vocational training which commenced on November 14 with the objectives to provide technical skill on nursery raising and propagation techniques of horticulture crops to rural youth to enhance their livelihood through self-employment activities successfully ended on November 18 last. The training session was attended by 30 participants from rural areas from Kokrajhar district, conducted by Puja Basumatary, subject matter specialist (Horticulture). Dr. Sunil Kumar Paul, Senior Scientist and Head (i/c), KVK, Kokrajhar commenced the session with a keynote address offering a comprehensive demonstration on the nursery production and urged the trainees to take nursery production as an economic venture explaining its importance and role in self-employment. The five-day long training programme covered a host of important subject on commercial nursery including Hands on training on Methods of Sexual (seeds) and Asexual/vegetative propagation in horticultural crops (Cuttings, Layering, Grafting, budding) and propagation by specialized organs (Bulb, corm, tuber, rhizome, runner, suckers, offset etc.) were imparted by Puja Basumatary, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture). Rabi Kanta Das, Progressive farmer and Entrepreneur interacting with the trainees shared his experiences and motivated the rural youth to take up nursery raising commercially for a better livelihood. The five days long training programme was concluded with the distribution of Certificates to the trainees who participated in the programme.
