Staff Reporter, Jorhat: Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the 5th Convocation ceremony of Assam Women's University in Jorhat on Monday and conferred degrees on 360 graduating students. Addressing the graduates, the Governor highlighted the importance of knowledge in shaping both individuals and society. Emphasising the value of education, he noted that knowledge is the greatest asset that leads people toward progress and prosperity. Describing the convocation as a significant milestone, Acharya said the occasion marks the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance and learning. He expressed confidence that the graduates would contribute meaningfully to society and wished them success in their future endeavours.
During the ceremony, a D.Litt degree was conferred on social worker Riniki Bhuyan Sharma in recognition of her contributions to social and cultural activities in Assam. The Governor praised her work and described her as an inspiration for women across the state. Highlighting the importance of women’s education, Acharya said empowering women through education strengthens families, communities and the nation. He also appreciated the university for implementing the principles of the National Education Policy and promoting research, innovation and skill development.
The convocation address was delivered by noted Khasi poet and scholar Streamlet Dkhar. The programme was also attended by Rupjyoti Kurmi, Vice-Chancellor Ajanta Borghohain Rajkhowa and other university officials, faculty members and students.
