Cattle recovered from a car at Sootea

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, November 22: The state government has initiated a ban on selling of immature and old cows in the state. But the cow smugglers have adopted unique strategies of smuggling cattle in the state under the nose of Assam police. Similar incident took place at Sootea in the wee hours on Tuesday. According to information, an I-20 car bearing registration number AS 02 AH 0403 proceeding from Gohpur side met an accident on NH 15 on Mornoi bridge near Sootea police station. When a team of Sootea police reached the accident site, the driver of the car managed to escape from the accident area leaving the car aside. When the police team looked inside the car, they spotted three cattle heads in that car. Later on, the police team recovered the cattle heads from the car and brought them to police station premises and seized the car. When contacted, one of the police officials said that the cow smugglers have adopted new techniques of cattle trading. The gang of thieves had stolen these cows from the cowshed of householders. It is to be mentioned here that the cases of cattle, goat thieves are on the rise in the greater Naduar area.
