IGNOU Pro-VC delivers Golden Jubilee lecture at LCC

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, August 14: Dr. Kiran Hazarika, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi lectured in the 6th Golden Jubilee Lecture of Lakhimpur Commerce College at North Lakhimpur today. Organized by the Golden Jubilee organizing committee of the college, the lecture was delivered at a function chaired by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, the Principal of the college. The IGNOU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Kiran Hazarika delivered his lecture on Transformation in Higher Education in the light of National Education Policy-2020. He said that the Indian education system had been undermining the tradition and culture of the country since its inception in 1839 by Macaulay. Dr. Hazarika narrated how Indian civilization developed the present day scientific developments like television, avionics, civil engineering, mathematics, astronomy since the days of the Ramayana and Mahabharata and how these had been neglected by the earlier education systems because of the European colonial occupation and their destruction by the invasions by other foreign powers like the Turks and Mongols. Explaining that the NEP-2020 would incorporate a value based and holistic education based on the ancient Indian tradition and culture by quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi that a new Indian mindset would emerge in the next twenty-five years when a Class I student would come out through the NEP-2020. Dr. Kiran Hazarika also blamed the British colonial administrators for forcing German Indologist Max Mueller not to allude his researches on ancient India in his books and how they confiscated the first ever prototype of airplane by an Indian Shivkar Talpade who first flew a flying machine over Chowpatty in 1895. Dr. Hazarika said that Shivkar had learnt the technique from sage Bharadwaja’s Vaimānika Shāstra and alleged that his prototype was given to Wright brothers of America who flew the first airplane in 1903. He said that Shivkar was picked by Hitler to design German aircrafts that were used in World War II against the British and its allied forces. The IGNOU Pro-Vice Chancellor also said in his lecture that the earlier education system failed to implement various policies like Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and created ‘brain drains’. Dr. Kiran Hazarika further said that the earlier education system did not glorify the historical figures like Shivaji and freedom fighters like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who allied with Hitler to defeat the British to make India free. He said that the NEP-2020 was designed to redefine Indian values and traditions which once had institutions like Nalanda and Tauxila. The 6th round of the Golden Jubilee Lecture series of Lakhimpur Commerce College was attended by teachers and office staff of the college with students.
