Assam BJP observed Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, August 14: On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day celebration, Assam BJP observed, Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas' or Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remember the pain of partition of the country today at ITA, Machkhowa here. Attending the event Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the objective of observing Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas was to remember the brave soldiers who lost their lives during partition with Tiranga (national flag) in hand and to remind Indians of the need to remove social divisions and disharmony and to further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment. "Partition wreaked havoc upon millions of countrymen and dealt a mighty blow to Akhand Bharat. On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, I recall the sufferings of people resulting from evil machinations of British Raj and newly-formed Pakistan. Why do they have to attack this? We must remember these days so that we never allow India to witness pain again- the CM further added. The partition of India was one of the most defining events in the history of the Indian subcontinent. With no accurate accounts of how many died or lost their homes, estimates suggest that up to 20 million people were affected by the partition and somewhere between 200,000 – 1 million lost their lives- he said. BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita, Mrigen Sarania, Mayor, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, BJP vice president Jayanta Kr. Das, Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Tapan Das, Gajendra Das, Professor, Srimanta Sankaradeva University along with others attended the event. It is to be mentioned that Notably, PM Modi, announced in the year 2021, that August 14 will be observed as the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in memory of the struggles and sacrifices of the people who were affected due to the partition. This day comes just a day before India celebrates its Independence Day every year. August 14 also marks Pakistan's Independence Day.
