Nagaon, August 21: Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha celebrated its 50th foundation day with a day-long programme here at its office Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha Bhavan on Saturday last. The programme was chaired by Paran Kr Boruah, noted Assamese poet, critic as well as the president of Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha. Noted Assamese litterateur and academician Upendra Borkatoki graced the occasion as chief guest while Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of Nowgong College (autonomous) was present as a special invitee. During the programme, over 11 books penned by several authors were ceremonially released by the invitees as well as the chief guest. Besides, a conclave among the youth and budding Assamese writers of the district was also held in the afternoon in which Sundar Sarma, the district president of BJP Yuva Morcha was present as a special guest. While addressing the occasion, Sarma appreciated the roles of the youth as well as other budding Assamese writers by saying that they played tremendous roles in Assamese literary works and creative writings since the beginning. Besides, he applauded the youth and budding Assamese writers who sacrificed alot for inclusion of Assamese language into Unicode, a release added.
