Staff Reporter, August 21: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been awarded UNESCO’s “Community Excellence Award'' in recognition of the University’s contribution for promoting peace, brotherhood and inclusiveness among various indigenous communities of the north-eastern region of India through its extension services and free education provided to the underprivileged students under various schemes launched by the University. The award function was held on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebration of UNESCO Association Guwahati yesterday at the Central Auditorium of the USTM. The Community Excellence Award was handed over to Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM by Dr Aswini Sarma, Executive Director, Resource Centre for UN-NER & Secretary General of UAG, Regional Coordinator of CUCAI-NER and Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chandra Barpatragohain, Education Chief of UNESCO Association Guwahati in the presence of Prof. L. L. Singh, Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University; Yogesh Kulshreshtha, Secretary General of CUCAI-New Delhi; Dr B.K. Das, Pro VC, USTM and Dr RK Sharma, Advisor to USTM apart from others in an august gathering. On the same occasion, teachers from the Pragjyotish College of Guwahati made presentations on “Ambubachi Mela 2022: An Observation in Consonance with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals''. The presentations were made by Dr. Arpita Das, Dr Bagmita Bhagawati and Dr Mridushmita Devi. Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chandra Barpatragohain from UNESCO graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Prof. L. L. Singh, VC, Bodoland University and Yogesh Kulshreshtha, Secretary General of CUCAI-New Delhi were the guests of honour in the event.
