A Correspondent, Bilasipara: The menace of illegal tree felling continues to plague the Bilasipara region, with forest mafias reportedly carrying out large-scale deforestation inside the Tokorabandha Hill Reserved Forest under the Shalkocha Forest Range.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Shalkocha Forest Department launched a surprise operation in the area and caught a youth red-handed while cutting down trees. The accused has been identified as Shahanur Alam, a resident of Tokorabandha village.

According to sources, the forest team apprehended Alam on the spot and completed all necessary legal formalities before producing him in court.
Local residents have voiced deep concern over the ongoing destruction of forest cover and natural resources. They have urged the Forest Department to strengthen vigilance and take strict action against those responsible for the illegal activities that threaten the region’s ecological balance.
