Justice delivery will play a defining role in realising Viksit Bharat: Dr. Sarma
Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that “law is not merely a set of rules, but a bridge of trust between the State and its people.” He was addressing the East-Zone Regional Conference of Legal Services Authorities from the seven northeastern states along with Sikkim, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha, held at Sonapur.
Dr. Sarma lauded the Assam State Legal Services Authority and the Gauhati High Court for organizing the event under the aegis of NALSA, emphasizing that such a platform strengthens institutions and ensures access to justice for the poor and marginalized.

He said that under the leadership of the judiciary, NALSA has grown into a nationwide movement promoting legal aid, awareness, and access to justice—even inside prisons. Highlighting regional concerns, Dr. Sarma called for harmonizing child marriage and POCSO laws, combating the drug menace, and empowering tribal and tea communities through legal awareness.
The Chief Minister stressed that realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat requires justice delivery to be accessible, affordable, and timely. He outlined priorities such as digital access, gender-sensitive justice, and environmental awareness.

The conference was presided over by Justice Surya Kant of the Supreme Court in the presence of Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar of the Gauhati High Court, and judges from 12 states.
