Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The Ministry of Education has approved the establishment of a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in the Charaideo district of Assam, marking a significant step toward enhancing access to quality education in the region. The approval was formally conveyed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to the Assam government through an official letter dated June 5, 2025. According to the letter, the new JNV will be established in Borboruakhati village of Sapekhati tehsil in Charaideo district. The permanent site for the school has already been identified, but temporary accommodation is yet to be provided by the Assam state government. The Vidyalaya will become operational only after suitable temporary infrastructure is arranged or once the construction of the permanent campus is completed, whichever is earlier. The move has been warmly welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who shared his appreciation via a written statement:
Glad to share that @EduMinOfIndia has approved a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Charaideo. This will bolster quality education in the district and provide better educational opportunities to our children. Gratitude to Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @dpradhanbjp ji for this decision.
To ensure smooth administration, the District Magistrate or Deputy Commissioner of Charaideo will serve as the Chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee. This measure aims to facilitate efficient local oversight and management of the new institution. The establishment of the JNV in Charaideo aligns with the Centre’s broader mission to expand quality residential schooling opportunities for meritorious students, particularly in rural and underserved regions. Further details regarding the construction timeline and commencement of academic sessions are expected to be released following coordination between the state and central authorities.
