Staff Reporter, Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu’s planned day-long visit to Assam later this week has been postponed for the second time, officials confirmed on Tuesday, June 10. Citing “unavoidable circumstances,” authorities stated that the visit has been deferred, though the scheduled state function will proceed as planned. President Murmu was slated to visit Guwahati on Thursday to confer the prestigious Srimanta Sankardeva Award to renowned classical dancer and cultural icon, Sonal Mansingh, at a ceremony organized by the state government. Despite her absence, the award ceremony will not be postponed. “The programme will take place as scheduled and the award will be presented by the Governor,” an official from the Assam Governor’s Secretariat told PTI. The President’s Office has also formally informed the Principal Secretary to the Assam Chief Minister about the postponement. This marks the second time the President has had to cancel her visit to the state. Her initial two-day visit, which was scheduled for April 25, was deferred in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and its related developments. No new date has been announced yet for the rescheduled visit. However, officials noted that further communication will be made once fresh arrangements are finalized.
