14 policemen injured in mob attack in Dighalwali village in Hojai; Police vehicles vandalized

Nikhil Kumar Mundra, Hojai: At least 14 policemen and SSB personnel were injured and three police vehicles were damaged in a clash between the police and the local tribal community at Dighalwali village within Hojai. As per the news, the situation turned tense in Dighalwali village area on Tuesday night when the villagers blocked the movement of tractors and JCBs plying in the area due to the dilapidated condition of the only road of the village. As per information, they allegedly tied up their drivers and took them into their custody. When the information of the said incident was given to the local police station by the JCB and tractor drivers, a police team reached the spot to rescue them. Reportedly, the police team tried a lot to convince the local people but the local people started arguing with the police and attacked them with sticks. Due to the sudden attack, many police personnel and other people were injured. Immediately after this, the Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Police Administration, SSB Sister reached the spot and tried to control the tense situation. During this, seeing the situation getting serious, the police administration had to do a mild lathi charge. However, the villagers were even ready to do one on one with the police administration. In order to control the situation, the police administration had to gun fire in the air. Many police personnel were injured in the mutual clash. In this context, the police arrested 7 people, including Mahadev Gour, Rajendra Gour, Gauri Gour, Baleshwar Kaut, V Gour,, Kailash Gour etc. On Wednesday, IGP (Law and Order) Akhilesh Singh and IGP Shiv Prasad Gangwal reached Hojai police station to take stock of the situation. After this, they visited the place of incidence and took stock of the situation, they were accompanied by Hojai Superintendent of Police Saurabh Gupta along with the police team. Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Assam Police Akhilesh Singh told local reporters that so far seven people involved in the incident have been arrested. Akhilesh Singh said that yesterday (August 12) at least 14 policemen, including an inspector level officer, were injured in the mob attack. Locals took a heavy vehicle and the driver into custody. When a police team reached the spot to rescue the driver, some people got into an argument with the police team and some of them attacked the policemen. Many more people came to the area and vandalized police vehicles and attacked the policemen. 14 policemen were injured and three police vehicles were damaged in this incident. He said that the police are further investigating the matter and police patrolling has been intensified in the area. He urged the people not to believe any kind of rumor and maintain peace.
