Selim SK, Dhubri: On the eve of Independence Day, Golokganj police recovered several objectionable items from Nayerchora village, near the India-Bangladesh border in Dhubri district, leading to the arrest of a youth. The accused has been identified as Iman Hussain, a resident of Nayerchora. During a late-night raid at his residence on Monday, police seized two bundles of counterfeit ₹500 notes, two Bangladesh flags, three Bangladeshi border markers, and 26 letters. The letters, reportedly sent from Bangladesh, were addressed to multiple individuals in Dhubri district. Police sources claim to have obtained a long list of names linked to the correspondence. Following the seizure, police detained four individuals, including Iman’s elder brother, Ali Hussain, an army jawan posted in Srinagar who had returned home to Laximari on leave a month ago. Two others — Mahabbat Ali, headmaster of Ramraikuti Majolia School, and Jahar Ali, assistant teacher of Laximari Majolia School — were also taken in for questioning. All three, except Iman Hussain, were released later the same night after interrogation. Locals have alleged that a “malicious group” may be attempting to falsely implicate the army jawan’s family in the matter. Meanwhile, a Special Task Force (STF) team has arrived in Golokganj to conduct a detailed investigation. Police say further inquiry is underway to ascertain the origin and purpose of the seized items, as well as the possible cross-border links.
