Rajdhani Halt at Diphu Still Elusive Despite Ministerial Nod

Pankaj Kumar Chauhan, Diphu: Despite official approval from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the long-standing demand for a halt of the prestigious 12423/12424 New Delhi–Dibrugarh Town Rajdhani Express at Diphu Railway Station remains unmet, sparking growing discontent among the people of Karbi Anglong. The demand, championed by Diphu MP Amarsing Tisso, dates back to a formal request submitted on July 20, 2024. Recognising Diphu’s significance as an administrative and commercial hub, the Union Minister responded positively in a letter dated May 28, 2025 (Ref: 2025/CHG/13/NFR/07/Part-1), assuring support for a daily halt. Following this assurance, the Railway Board’s Joint Director (Coaching) issued instructions to the General Manager of North Frontier Railway (NFR) to implement the halt. However, the directive remains unexecuted at the ground level, with NFR and its divisions yet to initiate any action. This inaction has triggered a wave of criticism from local leaders, civil society organisations, and residents who accuse the authorities of administrative negligence. “It is deeply disappointing that clear instructions from the Railway Minister have been ignored. It reflects a disturbing lack of accountability,” said a local activist. Public representatives are now urging the Ministry of Railways to intervene urgently, ensure immediate implementation of the approved halt, and take disciplinary measures against officials delaying the process. As resentment builds, all eyes are on NFR officials to honour the ministerial commitment and address the genuine aspirations of the people of Diphu.
