Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, January 21: The award distribution ceremony convened by the Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy, Assam in collaboration with Kabi Bhakta Rai Smriti Mandap was held at Biswanath College recently. The programme began with hoisting of the institutional flag by Chhatraman Subba, chairman of the memorial academy and was followed by illumination of ceremonial lamps in front of the portraits of freedom fighter Prasad Singh Subba and poet Bhakta Rai and offering floral tributes by Prakash Subba, working president of the academy and the family members.

The introductory session was held with Chhatraman Subba in the chair. Purna Kumar Sarma, vice president of the academy forwarded a welcome address. Chandramani Upadhyaya presented a memorial lecture of the life and contributions of late freedom fighter Prasad Singh Subba while Ram Chandra Adhikari delivered a memorial lecture on the life and literary contributions of poet Bhakta Rai. Man Bahadur Subba, a retired headmaster of Mansiri HS released the New Year calendar of the academy.

The second and award distribution session was held with Chhatraman Subba, chairman of the academy in the chair which was attended by Arun Krishna Rai, a retired district judge graced as a chief guest. The Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Award 2024 was presented to Prem Tamang, chairman of Gorkha Development Council, Assam by the Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy, Assam. Similarly, the Kabi Bhakta Rai Smriti Puraskar 2024 awarded by Siliguri based Kabi Bhakta Rai Smriti Mandap was presented to eminent litterateur from Sikkim, an epic writer CP Sarma and to Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, principal of Biswanath College and the president of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha. Both the awards carry a sarai, japi, shawl, gamosa, memento, a packet of books and a cash amount. The award distribution ceremony was addressed by Dr Khem Raj Nepal and Ganesh Poudel besides the awardees. All the proceedings of the award distribution ceremony were conducted by Anjan Baskota, chief secretary of by the Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy, Assam.
