Staff Reporter, Silchar: In a significant and unfortunate development, Bridge No. 17/1 located at Bhangarpar on the Silchar-Kalain Road (State Highway 38) has collapsed, leading to a complete disruption of vehicular and pedestrian movement along this vital corridor that connects several regions of the Barak Valley. The incident has triggered serious concerns over commuter safety and regional connectivity. The Public Works (Roads) Department, Borkhola Territorial Road Sub-Division, has promptly responded to the situation by issuing an official notice, declaring the bridge structure as completely unsafe for use. In view of the public safety risk, the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Division has earnestly appealed to all commuters to avoid taking the Silchar-Kalain route via Bhangarpar until further notice is issued. To alleviate travel challenges resulting from the bridge collapse, the department has advised commuters to utilize the Bhangarpar–Ranghar alternate route, which remains operational and safe for passage. All necessary traffic diversions have been put in place, and local authorities are extending every effort to manage the situation effectively. The district administration and the Public Works Department regret the inconvenience caused to the public and sincerely appeal for cooperation and understanding from all stakeholders during this emergency. Restoration and repair works are being taken up on an urgent basis, and regular updates will be provided to ensure transparency and effective communication with the public. The safety and well-being of the people remain the highest priority, and every possible measure is being initiated to restore normalcy at the earliest. The public is requested to stay informed through official channels and refrain from venturing near the affected site for their own safety.
