Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday inaugurated the 91.35-km-long Gorakhpur Link Expressway from Azamgarh, calling it a “new gateway of growth and prosperity” for eastern Uttar Pradesh. Built at a cost of ₹7,283 crore, the expressway links Gorakhpur, the CM's former Lok Sabha constituency, to several key districts including Azamgarh. The expressway, developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), features advanced road safety and traffic management systems. A dedicated safety fleet—including five Innovas, five Campers, four ambulances, two cranes, and one hydra vehicle—will patrol the expressway round the clock under the supervision of ex-servicemen. Emergency services are stationed every 45 km, with the Campers equipped with traffic cones, ropes, and radium strips to secure accident sites quickly. Cranes and a hydra vehicle will handle the towing of disabled vehicles, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow. An Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), similar to that on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, includes CCTV cameras every 5 km, speed detectors, and number plate recognition technology. Speeding violations will be flagged in real-time and reported to the respective district's transport authorities for prompt action. The expressway is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity and economic development in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
