Acting swiftly on CCTV footage and technical intelligence, police arrested four individuals from different parts of Assam and Nagaland — Noukhuti in Lanka, Dimapur near the railway station, Gandhibasti in Guwahati, and Bagulamari in Bilasipara, Dhubri. The stolen cash has been recovered, and all accused are now in custody under Chandmari PS Case No. 151/2025. The coordinated gang allegedly trespassed into Dr. Gohain’s home and carried out the theft, which triggered widespread concern given the stature of the victim. A scholar of English literature, he completed his education at Calcutta University, Delhi University, and Cambridge, and served as a professor at Gauhati University until his retirement.
