Final Delimitation Order Issued for 81 New Villages in Bodoland Territorial Region

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a major step towards administrative consolidation, the Assam Government has officially released the final delimitation order for 81 villages recently incorporated into the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). This marks a significant milestone in the restructuring of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). Sanctioned by the Governor of Assam, the final order comes after a detailed consultative process involving a wide array of stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and individual citizens. The incorporation of these villages was formalized through a series of notifications issued by the Welfare of Bodoland Department—dated December 31, 2022; November 6, 2023; and September 21, 2024. In line with Rule 3(2) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (Election) Rules, 2004, a draft delimitation order was earlier circulated for public scrutiny. Stakeholders were given a seven-day window to provide objections and suggestions. A designated authority was appointed via Notification dated June 3, 2025, to oversee the process. The draft order, published on June 5, 2025, was distributed across the relevant districts—Udalguri, Tamulpur, Baksa, Sonitpur, Nalbari, Darrang, and Biswanath. District Commissioners were tasked with engaging local communities and compiling detailed feedback reports. Based on the recommendations and public input, the final delimitation order has now been notified, clearly outlining the allocation of the 81 villages to specific BTC constituencies. Annexure-A of the order provides the updated territorial demarcations. Officials expect the move to enhance governance and development efforts in the newly added areas, facilitating better administrative coordination under the BTR framework.
