CM Visits Proposed Thermal Power Plant Site at Bilasipara

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a major push toward self-reliance in power generation, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited the proposed site for a 3400 MW thermal power plant at Chirakuta Charuwa Bakra in Bilasipara, Dhubri district. Spanning 3,300 bighas, 2 kathas, and 15 lechas, the site was inspected by the Chief Minister to assess its suitability for the ambitious power project. During his visit, Dr. Sarma interacted with local residents and assured them of rehabilitation grants as per government norms. With Assam’s energy demand expected to reach 5,000 MW by 2030 and 7,000 MW by 2035, the state government is working to make Assam a regional hub for thermal power. As part of this effort, the State Cabinet had earlier approved the Assam Thermal Power Generation Project Promotion Policy 2025 to attract large-scale investments. A tender for the project will be floated soon. Dr. Sarma said the project will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, especially for local youth. He appealed for public cooperation to ensure the smooth execution of the project. Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota accompanied the Chief Minister during the site visit.
