Staff Reporter, Bajali: A man identified as Sultan Ali from Bajali district of Assam was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sharing a video on social media that contained objectionable content against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to officials from the Bajali Police, the video was deemed to be "defamatory and inflammatory," potentially capable of disrupting public order. The content, which went viral across local WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages, drew sharp criticism from several quarters and was flagged by members of the public. Superintendent of Police, Bajali, stated that an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act. “Preliminary investigation suggests the video was shared with malicious intent. We are verifying the origin of the video and whether others were involved in its circulation,” the official added. Ali is currently in police custody and will be produced before a local magistrate. Authorities have also warned citizens against forwarding or sharing content that may incite communal tension or spread misinformation. The incident has triggered political reactions, with some civil rights activists calling for a balanced approach that respects freedom of expression while maintaining public order.
