Assam CM announces mega Bagarumba event with 10,000 dancers

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled plans for a grand cultural spectacle this December—a mega Bagarumba performance featuring over 10,000 dancers from the Bodo community, set to take place in Guwahati. In a social media post, CM Sarma wrote, “Coming Soon: A Mega Bagarumba Performance. This December, get ready to witness our Bodo community's exquisite heritage dance form—Bagarumba—in all its glory.” He also confirmed that a high-level preparatory meeting has already been held to kickstart groundwork for the event. The Bagarumba, often referred to as the “butterfly dance,” is a vibrant folk dance performed by Bodo women, known for its graceful, rhythmic movements and rich floral symbolism. The upcoming performance is poised to become one of the largest tribal dance showcases ever witnessed in the region, shining a national spotlight on Assam’s indigenous traditions. Officials said logistical preparations are well underway, including the selection of dancers from across Assam and coordination with cultural bodies to ensure a seamless execution. The event is envisioned not only as a cultural celebration but also as a symbol of unity, artistic pride, and the enduring legacy of the Bodo people. Once held, the mega Bagarumba performance is expected to draw massive public and media attention, positioning Assam as a vibrant center of India’s tribal and folk heritage.
