USTM Announces 500 Special Scholarships for North East Students

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has announced a landmark initiative, offering 500 Special Scholarships for students from North East India for the academic year 2025-26. The move aims to promote inclusive education and support talented students from diverse and underprivileged backgrounds. Announced during a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club, USTM officials including Dr. Rani Pathak Das (PRO), Dr. Rashmi Baruah (Associate Professor), Prof. Gayatree Goswamee (Dean, PQSE), Mr. Debasish Saha (Director Operations & IQAC), and Mr. Nurmahmud Ali (Director, Admissions) detailed the initiative. Dr. Das highlighted USTM's legacy of educational inclusivity, stating, “Out of over 10,000 students across ERD Foundation institutions, 80% are from rural areas and 57% are girl students.” Prof. Goswamee shared that the scholarships are distributed across nine categories, including merit-based (250), sports and cultural achievements, children of tea garden workers, orphans, and others. Dr. Baruah emphasized USTM’s diverse student body, representing over 30 communities across the Northeast. Mr. Ali announced full scholarships for state board toppers and merit-based financial support for those scoring above 85%, EWS students, and national-level test achievers. USTM is also offering 30% scholarships for differently-abled students and 15% for candidates from violence-affected areas. Applications for Diploma, UG, and PG programs are open via apply.ustm.ac.in. With a strong focus on equity, talent, and opportunity, USTM continues its mission of shaping a vibrant, inclusive academic environment in the region.
