A Correspondent, Dibrugarh: World Press Freedom Day was commemorated at DHSK College (Autonomous), Dibrugarh, with a thought-provoking event organized by the UN Federation of India, Dibrugarh District Journalists Association, Greater Dibrugarh Press Club, and the BCA Department of DHSK College. Highlighting the theme of technology's role in media, senior journalist and former president of the All Assam Journalist Association, Iqbal Ahmed, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Media.” He emphasized that while artificial intelligence offers operational advantages, it lacks the emotional depth that traditional journalism embodies. “AI cannot replace the emotional character of human-driven journalism,” he noted. Dr. Aswini Sarma, Secretary of the UN Federation India, shared the United Nations' vision for press freedom, while Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal of DHSK College, underscored the growing threats to democracy through violence against journalists. “Despite challenges, the media must remain resilient and committed,” he said. The event also honoured four emerging journalists—Jadav Gogoi, Jyotish Patir, Paresh Aind, and Jasim Ahmed—for their contributions to the field. The program was inaugurated by Bipin Sarmah, President of Dibrugarh District Journalist Association, and coordinated by Manjit Bora, General Secretary of the Association and President of Greater Dibrugarh Press Club. The ceremony began with a symbolic lantern lighting by Rajib Borgohain, founder president of the Greater Dibrugarh Press Club, and witnessed participation from veteran journalists, academics, and media professionals.
