Hareswar Bora, Nagaon: In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and cooperative development, the District Development Office of NABARD, Nagaon, organised a special plantation drive today at the College of Fisheries (CoF), Raha. The initiative, titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, was launched as part of the upcoming observance of the International Year of Cooperatives – 2025 (IYC-2025). The event saw active participation from NABARD’s District Development Manager Rajendar Perna, Assistant Commissioner Bidyashree Langthasa, Dean of CoF Dr. P.C. Bhuyan, LDM Khurshid Ansari, faculty members, and students. Speaking at the event, DDM Perna outlined NABARD’s future plans for IYC-2025, including Cooperative Literacy Camps, Women SHG promotion, Natural and Organic Farming events, and the creation of Solar Villages. “Today’s plantation drive is a symbolic beginning to these initiatives,” he said, before administering an oath to care for the saplings and preserve nature. Fruit saplings such as Mango, Litchi, Apple Ber, Guava, and Malta were planted by dignitaries and students. Assistant Commissioner Langthasa praised last year’s Amrit Briksha Abhijaan and emphasized the importance of biodiversity and healthy living. Dean Dr. Bhuyan expressed gratitude to NABARD for selecting CoF for this initiative and encouraged students to nurture the planted trees. LDM Khurshid Ansari added, “Just as small savings lead to big returns, small steps like this will inspire larger change.” The event was also attended by NSS volunteers and the Internal Quality Assessment Cell of the college.
