Sikkim Government Staff to Wear Traditional Attire Weekly

A Correspondent, Gangtok: In a move to celebrate and preserve its rich cultural heritage, the Sikkim government has directed employees of the Department of Personnel to wear traditional attire once a week. An official order issued by Rinzing Chewang Bhutia, Secretary of the Department, instructs all officers and staff to don their full traditional dress every Thursday. The initiative aims to promote the state's indigenous identity within the administrative system. “With a view to preserve and promote our cultural heritage and showcase our vibrant diversity, all officers and officials of Department of Personnel are hereby directed to wear their full traditional attire once a week every Thursday,” the order read. Officials stated that this directive is part of a larger effort to integrate cultural values with governance. The move is also expected to serve as an example for other departments and institutions across the state. The weekly tradition is seen as a symbolic step toward cultural revival, fostering pride and a deeper connection to Sikkim’s diverse roots among government employees.
