Assam to Get Specialised Pet Care Hospitals : CM Dr. Sarma

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a significant move to boost animal healthcare, the Assam government has announced plans to establish three specialised pet care hospitals and five multi-care veterinary medical facilities across the state. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, emphasizing the state’s commitment to the welfare of animals. “Specialised care for our furry friends. Govt of Assam has taken up a comprehensive plan to develop 3 pet care hospitals which will be operational by the end of 2025,” the Chief Minister posted. The specialised pet hospitals will be set up in Guwahati, Bokakhat, and Dibrugarh—three key urban and semi-urban hubs known for high pet populations and growing demand for quality veterinary services. In addition to these, five more veterinary hospitals will be constructed in Kamrup, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, and Sivasagar. These facilities will provide broader animal healthcare support, especially catering to livestock and rural veterinary needs. The announcement has been welcomed by pet owners, animal rights groups, and veterinarians across Assam. Many have lauded the move as a long-overdue step toward improving pet health infrastructure in the region. With these projects slated for completion by the end of 2025, Assam is set to witness a transformative upgrade in animal healthcare services. The initiative is expected to enhance access to professional care, reduce travel time for treatment, and promote responsible pet ownership across the state.
