RO Water Purifier Inaugurated at Tezpur Central Jail

Aditya Ankur, Tezpur: In a meaningful step towards improving inmate welfare, an RO Drinking Water Purification System was inaugurated today at Tezpur Central Jail, facilitated by the Tezpur Lions Club. The initiative aims to ensure clean and safe drinking water for both inmates and jail staff. The programme began with a welcome address by club member Pranita Medhi Changkakoti, followed by a mutual felicitation ceremony between jail authorities and members of the Lions Club, reflecting a spirit of cooperation and community service. Present at the event were Jailor Nayama Ahmed, several Lions Club members, donors, and supporters. Lions Club President Rajiv Jain addressed the gathering, explaining how the need for clean water in the jail inspired the club to raise funds through donors and well-wishers. “This initiative is part of our ongoing welfare activities. Providing a drop of safe water inside the jail is our way of giving back to society,” he said. The installed RO system includes a 1,000-litre tank, a high iron-structured stand, four taps, a granite basin, and a cemented approach path for easier access. Special recognition was given to donors Jai Narayan Bhati and Prem Jhawar for their significant contributions. Lion Dr. Satyajit Borah delivered an inspirational message to the inmates, encouraging them to learn from their past and strive for positive transformation. District Governor Elect Lalit Kumar Kothari applauded the collaboration between donors and authorities, emphasizing the project’s potential impact on inmate health. The jail superintendent expressed gratitude to all involved, noting the importance of such basic facilities. The event concluded with inmates presenting soulful songs and original compositions, adding a heartfelt cultural touch to the day’s celebrations.
