Police seize foreign liquor in Guwahati

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a dramatic turn of events, Latasil Police in Guwahati on Thursday seized a significant cache of foreign liquor from a residence in Malibagan, allegedly being used as a hub for illegal alcohol distribution. The tip-off came from an unexpected source — the daughter of the homeowners, who is a serving Assam Police Service (APS) officer. The house, registered in the name of the female Deputy Superintendent of Police currently posted in Sonitpur district, was reportedly being misused by her parents to run an illicit liquor network. Acting on the officer's complaint, police raided the premises and found multiple cartons of foreign liquor stored in large quantities. However, the officer’s father, Dhan Das, and other family members managed to flee the scene before the raid could be completed. According to police sources, Dhan Das is a repeat offender who was previously arrested for operating a similar racket in the Uzanbazar area of the city. Despite previous raids and police warnings, he allegedly continued the illegal trade undeterred. What sets this case apart is the bold decision of the daughter — a law enforcement officer herself — to report her own family. Sources close to the investigation said she had distanced herself from her father long ago due to his continued involvement in unlawful activities. Police have launched a manhunt for the absconding parents and are investigating the scale and reach of the operation. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a broader network being involved. Authorities have lauded the officer's integrity and commitment to duty, stating that her actions send a strong message about upholding the law, regardless of personal ties.
