Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the valedictory session of the two-day conclave on the development of the fishery sector in Assam, held at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati. Organized by Raj Bhavan, Assam, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Assam, the conclave brought together experts, scientists, and policymakers to discuss the sector's challenges and growth opportunities. In his address, Governor Acharya highlighted the immense potential of Assam's fisheries and emphasized the importance of transforming the sector into a modern, sustainable, and entrepreneurial enterprise. “The actionable decisions from this conclave will help implement recommendations in an integrated, planned, and time-bound manner,” he said, expressing confidence that Assam can become self-sufficient in fish production and a major exporter. He stressed the need to empower youth with access to technology, training, credit, and market linkages, and expressed gratitude to experts like Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR, and representatives from CIFRI, CIFA, and NABARD. The Governor received the Final Report of the conclave from Dr. Jena, terming it a valuable roadmap for policy reforms and sectoral development, not only for Assam but the entire country. Fisheries Minister Shri Krishnendu Paul praised the report as a visionary document supporting a "Blue Revolution" in Assam, aligned with national goals of doubling farmers' income and boosting exports. The event was also attended by Addl. Chief Secretary Kailash Chand Samaria, ICAR officials, OSD to the Governor Prof. Bechan Lal, and senior scientists and officers from the Department of Fisheries and Raj Bhavan.
