Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The Indian National Congress has named Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi as the new President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), replacing Bhupen Kumar Borah. The announcement was made on Monday as part of a broader effort to strengthen the party's presence in Assam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.Alongside Gogoi’s appointment, the Congress high command also designated three Working Presidents to support organisational and grassroots efforts in the state: Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Roselina Tirkey, and Pradip Sarkar. Roselina Tirkey will step down from her role as AICC Secretary to focus on her new responsibilities.The party expressed appreciation for Bhupen Kumar Borah’s leadership during his tenure as APCC President, acknowledging his significant contributions to the party’s work in Assam.Expressing gratitude, Gogoi tweeted his thanks to Congress leaders for entrusting him with the leadership role, emphasizing his commitment to advancing the party’s agenda in the region.In a move aimed at enhancing election readiness, key committees were formed with senior leaders appointed to critical roles:Campaign Committee: Bhupen Kumar Borah,Coordination Committee: Debabrata Saikia,Manifesto Committee: Pradyut Bordoloi,Publicity Committee: Rakibul Hussain,Election Management Committee: Likely headed by Ripun Bora.This leadership overhaul strategically combines seasoned politicians with emerging talent.
