APCC files FIR against BJP minister

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The Assam Congress has lodged a police complaint against BJP MLA and Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who recently briefed the media on ‘Operation Sindoor’. The complaint was filed by the party’s civic and social outreach wing at Dispur police station, accusing Shah of insulting a decorated officer of the Indian Armed Forces. Congress leaders have called the minister’s comments not only disrespectful but also damaging to the morale of the armed forces. “Remarks against any official of the armed forces cannot be tolerated,” said Bandeep Dutta, chairman of the outreach wing. “At a time when the entire nation is united in support of our military, such statements are deeply condemnable and unacceptable.” The party maintained that Shah’s comments have hurt public sentiment and angered citizens across the country. They also called for appropriate legal action against the minister to uphold the dignity of the armed forces and ensure accountability for inflammatory speech. The issue has sparked sharp political reactions, with Congress demanding an apology and urging the BJP leadership to take disciplinary steps. As the controversy grows, many civil society members and veterans have also expressed solidarity with Col. Qureshi, highlighting the importance of respecting those in uniform. Police have acknowledged receiving the complaint and stated that they are reviewing the matter for further action.
