Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Acclaimed journalist-turned-filmmaker Hemanta Sarma is set to make waves again with his latest cinematic venture, “Omnipresent – A Story.” Following the success of his debut short film “To-Let,” which garnered accolades at international film festivals, Sarma’s new film dives into a bold and thought-provoking subject. Produced under the banner of Focus Media, the film has been written, scripted, and directed by Sarma himself. “Omnipresent – A Story” tells a powerful tale from the unusual perspective of a plastic bag. As this “omnipresent” object journeys through various corners of a bustling metropolitan city, it silently observes scenes of human carelessness, environmental neglect, and irresponsible urban living. “This plastic bag isn’t a blessing—it’s a toxic shadow that looms over us,” Sarma explained. The film uses the metaphor of the plastic bag to address the broader ecological and societal crises caused by pollution and apathy. Shot across various locations in Guwahati, the film features cinematography by Gyan Gautam with assistance from Sirajul Ali. The post-production team includes editor Manas Kashyap and lighting/set designer Sankar Dutta. The ensemble cast features Dhruba Prasad Bora, Niharika Nath, Pranavi Mohanta, Dheeraj Das, and Garima Das, among others. Currently in the editing phase, the film is expected to clear the censor process later this month. Sarma confirmed that “Omnipresent – A Story” will be submitted to multiple national and international film festivals upon completion.
