10,000 YABA tablets worth Rs 2 crore seized; two arrested

A Correspondent, Sribhumi: In a major blow to drug trafficking networks in Assam, Sribhumi police recovered 10,000 YABA tablets valued at approximately Rs 2 crore from Sadarashi. Two alleged drug peddlers were apprehended in connection with the seizure, marking a significant milestone in the state’s intensifying war on narcotics. The operation is part of the broader #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign, spearheaded by the Assam government to curb the flow of illegal substances across the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to commend the Assam Police for their swift and effective action. “Proud of @assampolice for their relentless efforts in our fight against drugs,” he tweeted, reaffirming the state’s firm stance against narcotics. This recent bust comes on the heels of another major drug haul last week in the Cachar district. Police arrested two individuals from Salchapra in Silchar and seized heroin and opium worth an estimated Rs 4.5 crore. Authorities reported recovering 847 grams of heroin and 4.035 kilograms of opium during that operation. The state’s law enforcement agencies have ramped up anti-drug operations in recent months, targeting both small-scale dealers and larger trafficking networks operating across Assam and its bordering regions.
