Assam Governor launches Nasha Mukt Bharat de-addiction campaign

Staff Reporer, Guwahati: In a major step towards creating a drug-free, healthy, and peaceful society, Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, today launched a de-addiction campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). The initiative, organized by the Medical Wing of the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vidyalaya (Rajyoga Education), was inaugurated at the Brahma Kumaris Sub-Zone Centre in Guwahati today. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor emphasized the campaign’s significance not only as a social intervention but as a crucial nation-building initiative. “The Drug-Free India Campaign is an important national mission. Its primary goal is to raise widespread awareness about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse, especially among youth and students”. The Governor said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has envisioned a drug-free India by 2047, marking the centenary of the country’s independence as one of extraordinary and unparalleled. “This collective resolve of the nation is laying the foundation for a bright future and a stronger, self-reliant India,” he added. Highlighting Assam’s proactive stance, the Governor praised the zero-tolerance policy of the government against drug trafficking and substance abuse. While lauding the efforts of Prajapita Brahmakumaris, Governor Acharya underscored the importance of public participation. Government initiatives alone are not enough. It is essential to spread awareness at personal, societal, and community levels. The youth must be made aware of the devastating impact of substance addiction, and they must build a strong grassroots movement, the Governor added. Acharya commended the Brahma Kumaris for their efforts in organizing awareness programs across the country and reaching millions with the message of de-addiction. “Their work for social harmony, human values, and national awakening, especially through Rajyoga meditation, has empowered individuals spiritually to lead a life of positivity and purpose,” the Governor said. He called upon the Brahma Kumaris and all sections of society to continue championing this cause. “Let this campaign become a people’s movement. Together, we can defeat the scourge of addiction and build a Drug-Free India for the health and wellbeing of future generations.”
