Tyagbir Hem Baruah College all set to celebrate Diamond Jubilee from Feb. 7 to 9

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, January 25: Tyagbir Hem Baruah College, a beacon of higher education in Sonitpur district which was established in 1963, has proudly entered its Diamond Jubilee year in 2024. The closing ceremony of the year-long celebration will be marked by a vibrant three-day event from February 7 to 9, featuring a host of memorable activities. Addressing a press meet held at the conference hall of the IQAC today, Dr Ajit Hazarika, Principal of the college and Secretary of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee informed that the festivities will begin on February 7 with a ceremonial flag hoisting. Sixty flags will be raised to commemorate the occasion, with the main flag hoisted by Padma Hazarika, MLA of Naduar Constituency and President of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee. On the same day, a souvenir will be unveiled by Jayanta Baruah, proprietor of the Pratidin Group. Later the former teachers, staff, and their families will be honored. The evening will feature the performance of Karna Parva bhaona by the college’s staff, students, and alumni. February 8 will be dedicated to programmes organized by the college alumni and the current students. The day will begin with registration, followed by a tribute ceremony. The alumni reunion will be inaugurated by Padma Hazarika, Chief Advisor of the Alumni Association, and presided over by Baneshwar Bora, President of the Alumni Association. Dr Anjan Jyoti Choudhury, a distinguished cultural figure and orator, will deliver the keynote address. Jyoti Kalita, a former student of the college and Joint Secretary (Administration) of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, will also address the gathering as an appointed speaker. The day will conclude with a cultural evening featuring performances by alumni and the current students. The event will be inaugurated by Gayatri Mahanta, an iconic actress and former student of the college. The popular comedy troupe Sizing Fak will add to the evening’s entertainment. The final day, February 9, will open with a cultural procession showcasing the rich diversity of Sonitpur district, featuring participation from various communities, ethnic groups, and institutions. The procession will be inaugurated by renowned actress Chetana Das. The main session of the day, chaired by MLA Padma Hazarika, will feature Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief guest and Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu as a special guest. Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari will inaugurate the session. In the evening the cultural programme will spotlight performances by local artists and popular stars from the television serial Beharbari Outpost. The event will also feature a special performance by noted singer Achurjya Borpatra Gohain. The organizing committee invites the local community, institutions, and alumni to actively participate and support the successful celebration of this milestone event.
